MY STORY

Through our karate association Budokai Vleesenbeek, I have already been introduced to Power Of Reflection through Ecem Yuksel. This is because she and some members of our dojo organised a charity run to raise money.

As I was looking for a charity to organise a sponsorship campaign for myself, Ecem approached me.

My reason for supporting Power Of Reflection is that I myself am familiar to some extent with a connective tissue-related condition. However, that is a condition that is dwarfed by what these people have to endure.

What amazes me is that I never knew that a disruption of connective tissue and collagen could lead to such intense complications. And if I don't know this, many people with me will be unaware of it. It may fortunately be a rare syndrome, but it doesn't make the pain and uncertainty any less.

Then again, when I read that these people could be spared a lot of suffering and trauma, through more research into an effective cure, so name recognition and more funding for Power Of Reflection is essential.

If, through this sponsorship campaign, I can hand over a modest amount of money, as well as raise awareness of these rare connective tissue disorders and the existence of Power Of Reflection, then for me my goal will have been achieved.
